HP Teacher Recruitment 2024: Election Over, Teacher Recruitment Process Accelerates in Himachal Pradesh
With the conclusion of the elections, the teacher recruitment process in Himachal Pradesh has gained momentum. This month, 2,123 teachers will be recruited for government schools in the state. The recruitment process is expected to speed up significantly.
The recruitment of 1,100 Junior Basic Training (JBT) teachers and 1,023 Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) will be conducted batch-wise. It is anticipated that the appointment letters for the selected teachers will be issued by the end of this month. The recruitment process was on hold due to the Model Code of Conduct during the election period. Education Minister Rohit Thakur has directed departmental officials to expedite the process.
Due to the Model Code of Conduct imposed during the Lok Sabha and Assembly by-elections, the recruitment of TGTs, JBTs, and computer teachers was delayed. Before the election process began, the education department had selected 1,023 TGTs through batch-wise recruitment. However, these teachers could not be appointed due to the ongoing election process. The Education Minister has instructed that all formalities related to these appointments be completed this month. Additionally, approximately 1,100 JBT positions will also be filled through batch-wise recruitment.
The Directorate of Elementary Education announced the results of the batch-wise counseling held in October-November 2023 on March 13. In this, 496 candidates were selected for TGT Arts, 333 for TGT Non-Medical, and 194 for TGT Medical. The education department sought approval from the High Court to fill 1,161 batch-wise JBT positions.
The court, while ordering not to announce the results of some recruitments, has given the green light to start the appointment process for about 1,100 positions. Additionally, the government recently announced the filling of 985 computer science lecturer positions. These positions will be filled through direct recruitment via the Public Service Commission, with priority given to previously outsourced computer teachers. The education department is expected to make a decision regarding these appointments soon.
Selection Criteria for Outstanding Teachers to Focus on School Results
In Himachal Pradesh, the selection of outstanding teachers will now heavily rely on school results. The criteria for the teacher award selection process are set to change. Teachers will not only be assessed based on book writing, environmental protection, cleanliness, and other activities, but also on the academic performance of the students in their schools. The Education Minister has directed departmental officials to complete this year’s teacher award process using the new criteria.
This acceleration in the recruitment process is a significant step towards improving the quality of education in Himachal Pradesh, ensuring that qualified teachers are quickly placed in schools to benefit the students and the education system as a whole.
